The bearded iris (Iris germanica) is one of the jewels of Ukraine’s botanical gardens, known for centuries. In Christian symbolism, its three petals represent faith, wisdom, and courage. This watercolor was painted from life to capture a fleeting moment of bloom and reveal the plant’s natural beauty.
Observing the iris is an experience of stillness, focus, and gratitude. In its asymmetry is order, in its folds is energy, and in its colors is depth. Its unfolding feels like breath: slow and natural. For me, the iris symbolizes the fragility of the moment and the strength of the delicate.
